( February 13, 2008, 10:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- The European Commission has decided to initiate proceedings before the European Court of Justice in view of Italy's failure to comply with the Commission's decision of 21 February 2007 ordering Italy to recover €98.36 million illegal and incompatible state aid granted by the Region of Sardinia to the mining company Nuova Mineraria Silius SpA (see IP/07/224).Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said "The Commission intends to deal very strictly with Member States that fail to implement its state aid decisions. This is crucial to avoid unfair distortions of competition."...
