FCC shouldn't heavily restrict Title II application to net neutrality, consumer group says

( January 7, 2015, 22:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Federal Communications Commission should consider applying a number of provisions from Title II of the Communications Act of 1934 to ensure net neutrality, Mark Cooper, director of research at the Consumer Federation of America, told FCC General Counsel Jonathan Sallet in a phone conversation, according to a letter posted Thursday on the agency's website. Those provisions include universal-service guarantees, carrier liability and the removal of barriers for rival services to enter a market. The agency should be careful not to exempt Internet broadband service from too much of Title II as part of its effort to safeguard equal Internet access for content providers, Cooper said.See attached document....
