Nord Stream 2 responds to governments’ objections

( March 21, 2016, 16:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The consortium behind the expansion of the Nord Stream natural-gas pipeline has responded to objections to the project from EU governments in central and eastern Europe. Nord Stream 2 says arguments outlined in a letter to the European Commission from nine countries (including Poland, Lithuania and Slovakia) are based on misconceptions. The countries are concerned that expanding the pipeline, which brings gas from Russia to Europe, will make the EU more dependent on Gazprom. But Nord Stream has refuted the claims in a response today, saying the project poses no risk to the nine countries and will make fuel supplies to the bloc more reliable by delivering volumes to compensate for declining domestic gas production in the bloc.Full statement follows:...
