GSMA, ETNO seek 'trusted flaggers' to identify illegal content in EU's Digital Services Act

( September 7, 2020, 14:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Telecom associations GSMA and ETNO have said the European Commission’s Digital Services Act should keep essential elements of the e-commerce directive, such as the country-of-origin principle, limited liability for online intermediaries and a prohibition against platforms monitoring content. The new rules should allow for “trusted flaggers” that should be accredited and independent, and whose role would be to identify illegal online content. Regarding new rules on digital “gatekeepers,” the groups said they must be prevented from abusive practices that stifle innovation and competition. The DSA should include a list of prohibited unfair commercial practices that gatekeepers should always be prevented from deploying, the associations said.Position paper is attached....
