South Korea to sanction 19 pharmaceutical firms for providing illegal rebates

Earlier this year, prosecutors probed the companies for providing bribes to local medical personnel totaling 1 billion won ($888,419) to secure sales contracts. However, they decided to sanction only individual staff members, not the companies themselves. The government said that based on relevant law, a corporate body involved in providing illegal rebates should be punished, despite the position taken by prosecutors. The companies have decided to fight the ministry's decision and will file an administrative lawsuit, the report adds....
