Antitrust: Austrian regulator asks cartel court to impose fine on domestic chemical wholesaler cartel

( December 17, 2007, 13:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Austrian competition authority has filed before the cartel court an application for the imposition of a fine against an unidentified member of a national chemical wholesale cartel. In December 2006, the regulator (BWB) launched an investigation into the market for industrial chemicals prompted by an application under the Austrian leniency programme. The applicant first requested leniency with the EU authorities and then subsequently with Austria, France and Germany, where raids took place in April 2007. In the Austrian case only two companies were accused of forming a cartel, the authority added. In Germany, however, the investigation involved 14 companies.
