Federal judge erred in saying CoreLogic algorithm not responsible for housing discrimination claims, DOJ tells appeals court

( November 24, 2023, 21:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice said a federal judge in Connecticut erred last year in finding that a tenant-screening algorithm sold by Corelogic Rental Property Services could not be held legally responsible for a violation of housing discrimination laws. "The district court erred in holding that CoreLogic cannot be liable under [the Fair Housing Act] because it does not itself disqualify applicants or directly control the landlord’s ultimate decision whether to accept or reject a prospective tenant," the DOJ told the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in an amicus filing "The text of Section 3604(a) makes clear that an entity can be held liable for violating the FHA even if that entity does not have the power to make the ultimate housing decision."See attached document....
