Vodafone-Unitymedia merger not 'approvable,' German associations say

( March 25, 2019, 14:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: German broadband and fibreoptic assocations Breko and Buglas, private-media federation Vaunet and Deutsche Netzmarketing have published a joint declaration setting out their concerns over plans by Vodafone and Unitymedia to merge. They said that the deal — which would create a mega player with over 14 million connected households and a market share of 80 percent in cable — saw Vodafone trying to re-monopolize the domestic cable market 20 years after it was liberalized. The deal would drive smaller rivals out of the market, to the detriment of final customers, and would threaten media diversity, the associations said.Statement follows in German....
