Facebook will face Irish probe over exposure of passwords, German watchdog says

( March 21, 2019, 23:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Germany's top privacy enforcer said its Irish counterpart is to probe Facebook with a view to fining it over revelations today that in January the company uncovered hundreds of millions of passwords stored for years without encryption on internal servers and accessible to thousands of employees. The case will be discussed by the European Data Protection Board, which groups EU privacy regulators, the German authority said, and it must be established whether Facebook has violated the incident reporting obligations in the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. The Irish data-protection authority is responsible for investigating as Facebook's EU base is in Ireland.Statement follows in German....
