EU’s critical raw materials supply subject of new commission’s policies

( September 3, 2020, 09:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Mining, clean-tech and digital companies in the EU have today received an Action Plan from the European Commission, outlining new policies to secure and diversify the bloc’s supply of critical raw materials, such as rare earths, cobalt and platinum. An existing list of raw materials considered critical has also been updated, with lithium — crucial in battery manufacture — added for the first time. The proposed measures include a new industry alliance to be instituted by the end of the year, joint projects with external countries such as Canada, as well as rules on mining practices that don't harm the environment.Documents are attached. ...
