UnitedHealth, Change Healthcare's merger investigation 'contentious' and 'protracted' because of document delays, US DOJ letter shows

( May 5, 2022, 20:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice told UnitedHealth Group and Change Healthcare that the agency's investigation of their proposed merger has been "contentious" and "protracted" because the merging parties delayed providing data and documents, according to a freshly unsealed letter dated February 23, 2022. The redacted letter, which was filed weeks ago as part of the DOJ's challenge to the merger, said "the parties’ untimely and often incomplete productions and spotty engagement hindered the Division’s investigation and increased the time and resources required to reach a decision on this matter." The letter, sent to counsel for Unitedhealth, was previously filed under seal and the DOJ said it sought to clarify the record as to the merging parties' characterization of the investigation.
