Snapchat is most-used platform in UK child-abuse image offenses, figures show

( March 1, 2024, 09:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Snapchat was involved in the highest number of instances of child-abuse image crimes where an online platform was named by police last year, according to figures compiled by UK children’s charity the NSPCC. Snapchat was involved in 44 percent of reports and Meta’s Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp in 25 percent. The overall number of child sexual abuse image crimes recorded increased by 25 percent year on year to more than 33,000 last year. The charity gathered responses of 35 of the 43 UK police forces it issued with freedom-of-information requests. It calls on regulator Ofcom to swiftly implement the Online Safety Act and require platforms to take steps to stop their products being involved in child abuse.Press release follows....
