Google must face Fotobom Media's US antitrust claims, judge rules

( February 27, 2024, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google must face Fotobom Media’s US antitrust claims accusing it of interfering with the deployment of the Fotobom app by wireless carriers such as Mexico's América Móvil on Android devices, a federal judge ruled. District Judge Amit P. Mehta denied Google’s motion to dismiss the tying claims. “Plaintiff has adequately pleaded that Google leverages its control over its GSuite bundle of ‘must have’ applications to force Android device manufacturers to accept Gboard as the preloaded default smart keyboard, which has anticompetitive market effects.  Those effects are enhanced by the GMS certification process, which disincentivizes OEMs from preloading non-Google keyboard applications,” Mehta said.
