Uber Eats changes restaurant contract terms following Australian probe

( July 17, 2019, 02:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online food ordering and delivery service Uber Eats will update its contract terms for restaurants, after an investigation by Australia's competition regulator. In a statement today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said the changes would mean that restaurants will only be responsible for incorrect food items, or incorrect and missing orders, and not problems with the delivery. The ACCC said contract terms in place since 2016 held the restaurant financially liable for food delivery, which the regulator says is outside of the restaurants' control. Under the terms, Uber Eats would refund consumers and deduct those funds from restaurants. “Ensuring small businesses aren’t subject to unfair contract terms by larger businesses is one of our top priorities," ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said today. Uber Eats has said it will complete the contract changes by December and will not impose the terms deemed unfair by the ACCC in the meantime.Full statement follows: ...
