Namyang Diary franchisee abuse claim slashed after appeal

In 2013, the Korea Fair Trade Commission fined the company 12.4 billion won for allegedly forcing franchisees to buy products between October 2007 and May 2013. In July 2014, a franchisees' association filed a damages suit asking for 1.8 billion won, but the court ordered Namyang to pay only 600 million won. The company filed an appeal to cancel that claim and the high court backed it, citing a three-year statute of limitation. Since almost all franchisees ended their dealings with the firm before July 2011, there was no need for Namyang to pay compensation, other than to one franchisee. ...
