Negotiating mandate for regulation on foreign subsidies agreed by EU member states

( May 4, 2022, 14:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A negotiating mandate for the regulation on foreign subsidies has been agreed by EU member states, the Council of the European Union has said. The rules address the distortions in the internal market created by support granted by non-EU countries to companies operating in the bloc's single market. The European Commission will have to balance the positive and the negative aspects of foreign subsidies. The criteria and procedures for the application of this test are clarified by the council text. It also raises the notification thresholds that have to be reached to trigger the commission's investigation. The mandate allows now for negotiations with EU lawmakers.Press release follows.
