VKB Milling's purchase of Progress Milling cleared with conditions in South Africa

( July 14, 2017, 11:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Maize milling company VKB Milling has received antitrust clearance, with conditions, from South Africa's Competition Commission for its planned purchase of Progress Milling. Progress Milling ceased operations in February 2016 but now sells white maize products from stock milled prior to then. The commission found that the white maize milling market is open to collusion and the the merger could facilitate information sharing between rivals. The regulator therefore approved the merger on the condition that sensitive information isn't shared between the companies, which post-merger will have a link to other competitors in the sector.The full text of the statement is below:...
