Lawyers for accused BTC-e operator say he was never a fugitive from US law enforcement

( February 23, 2024, 21:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Lawyers for Aliaksandr Klimenka argued in a court filing that he is not a risk to flee to Belarus as he faces charges in the United States that he helped operate BTC-e, a criminal money-laundering operation. Klimenka "faced threats in Latvia as a result of those actions [repatriating money to US law enforcement] but he would be risking imprisonment or even death – especially given the publicity of the present case – were he to set foot in Belarus," Klimenka's lawyers said in a court filing.See document below....
