Comment: Transurban's Australian toll-road bid disappearing over the horizon

The speculation was in part fueled by Transurban itself, which continued to inform its shareholders that all options were still on the table. But now, nearly six months since the regulator’s decision, the likelihood of an appeal by the companies looks increasingly slim.At first, last year’s move on Horizon Roads appeared to be following a clear script. Australian turnpike behemoth Transurban wanted a stake in Eastlink, the Horizon-operated tollway east of Melbourne, and the country’s competition watchdog was set to raise its usual concerns over the publicly listed company’s omnipresence — and omnipotence — in local markets....
