EnergySolutions acquisition of Waste Control Specialists would be anticompetitive, judge rules

( July 12, 2017, 18:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US District Judge Sue Robertson ruled that EnergySolutions's acquisition of Waste Control Specialists would result in a significant increase in market concentration for lower activity low-level radioactive waste disposal and a merger to monopoly in higher activity low-level radioactive waste disposal. Robertson rejected the parties' arguments that WCS was a failing firm, finding that the parent company Valhi didn't make a good faith effort to obtain reasonable alternative offers to EnergySolutions' bid.
