South Korea invites businesses to apply for Cross-Border Privacy Rules certification

( May 2, 2022, 09:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean privacy regulator announced it would start receiving applications for Cross-Border Privacy Rules, or CBPR, certification on May 3 and hold a presentation session on May 17 to introduce and explain the CBPR scheme to South Korean businesses. South Korea joins nine member countries, including the US, Japan and Singapore in inviting businesses to participate. CBPR certification guarantees the free transfer of data between companies located in the member countries, without having to go through separate data-transfer procedures, the PIPC said. Applying businesses will be required to meet 50 assessment criteria, including having appropriate safeguards for data collection and management, and will have to renew their CBPR certification annually.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
