Australian government appoints new national cybersecurity chief

( February 26, 2024, 00:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian government has appointed Michelle McGuinness as the new National Cyber Security Coordinator. In a social media post today, Minister for Home Affairs Clare O’Neil confirmed that McGuinness, a lieutenant general who has served in the Australian Defense Force for 30 years, will "drive forward the necessary work to ensure Australia is best positioned to respond to the opportunities and challenges of the digital age.” McGuinness is replacing the first coordinator, Darren Goldie, who was appointed in June 2023 and has been away over a “workplace matter” since November 2023. Hamish Hansford, deputy secretary of cyber and infrastructure security in the Department of Home Affairs, had been made the coordinator in the interim.
