Italian Telecoms Regulator: AGCOM approves criteria for digital switchover for TV

( April 8, 2009, 11:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Italian telecoms regulator, AGCOM, has approved the final criteria for the switchover from analogue to digital TV transmissions. Under the terms, there will be 21 national DVB-T networks. Eight of these will be allocated to existing analoge broadcasters, to deliver standard- and high-definition content. Another eight networks will be allocated to harmonise the frequency bands currently used by digital broadcasters, which today use less efficient spectrum allocations. The remaining five networks will be made available, through auction, to any European operator - three of which are only open to new entrants. The decision is in line with comments received by the regulator from the European Commission....
