Vision Service Plan fails to get out of US antitrust case over insurance

( February 20, 2024, 23:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vision Service Plan must face US claims over alleged refusal to deal and monopolization in the market for vision insurance for independent optometry practices in California, a federal judge ruled. US District Judge Cormac J. Carney denied dismissal as to those claims, saying that although Total Vision does not allege it competes in the vision insurance market, it extensively describes how VSP’s monopoly power in a closely related market impacts its ability to do competitive business. “And Total Vision alleges that VSP uses its monopoly power in the vision insurance market to strengthen its position in markets in which Total Vision directly competes.” However, Carney did dismiss the tying claims in the case.See document below. ...
