​Knauf-USG merger faces New Zealand regulatory pushback as regulator expands review to AWI

By James Panichi ( March 13, 2019, 03:11 GMT | Insight) -- The planned $7 billion global acquisition of US building-materials maker USG by rival Knauf has run into significant headwinds in New Zealand, where the regulator is warning of high prices and poorer product quality if the deal were to proceed. In a letter of issues released today, New Zealand Commerce Commission said it was concerned that the deal would effectively remove a competitor in the manufacture and supply of modular-suspended ceilings.
