Trivago hit with $32,3 million fine by Australian court over misleading price claims

( April 22, 2022, 05:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Trivago has been hit by penalties of A$44.7 million ($32.3 million) for misleading consumers over its hotel-room rates, after the global platform was found to have used an algorithm that placed significant weight on which online hotel booking site paid Trivago the highest rates. In a statement published today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said it welcomed the decision by the Federal Court of Australia to impose the fines, which related to Trivago’s operations between December 2016 and September 2019. The ACCC had recommended the fine after concluding that Trivago had violated the Australian Consumer Law by suggesting it was helping consumers to find the best bargain when it was, in fact, prioritizing those paying the most.  The statement by the ACCC follows; the full statement, including graphics, is attached:...
