Dow, DuPont merger recommended for conditional clearance in South Africa

( July 5, 2017, 16:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Dow Chemical's planned merger with DuPont has been recommended for clearance with conditions by South Africa's Competition Commission. Dow distributes imported sunflower seeds, agrochemicals and food texturisers in South Africa. DuPont distributes seeds and agrochemicals. The watchdog found that the merger would potentially lessen competition in some South African markets. Dow is required to make some maize hybrids and inbred lines available to third parties and to register its PowerCore and Enlist biotechnology traits in South Africa within two years of approval. DuPont's entire insecticide business must also be divested. The commission will now forward its recommendation to the higher-tier Competition Tribunal.The full text of the statement is below:...
