Association President Rawittha Pongnuchit said although the Customs Act of 1926 allowed players other than King Power to operate duty-free shops downtown, the Customs Department also required them to set up pick-up counters at airports, which was effectively barred by existing contracts between King Power and Airports of Thailand, or AoT, which oversees the country’s international airports. Pongnuchit said the association could file a lawsuit against the ministry and related executives claiming dereliction of duty at the Administrative Court and for discrimination at the criminal court. She also urged AoT to consider negotiating to reclaim commercial areas at airports before those contracts expired in four to six years. ...
