They alleged that farmers and rice millers colluded to inflate rice-stock reports in order to claim higher subsidies in 2012-13, while state officials covered up “fake” government-to-government deals with China. Thai Rice Exporters Association Honorary President Vichai Sriprasert said that while the government claimed it had closed G2G deals for 14 million tons of rice with Hainan Grain and Oil Industrial Trading, China’s sole representative was actually China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation, and that China had a rice import quota of just 5.3 million tons. Yingluck is charged with dereliction of duty for failing to prevent misconduct, costing the state some 500 billion baht ($14 billion), charges that she claims were politically motivated.      ...
