Ex-UK privacy commissioner joins children's rights charity to promote digital regulation

( April 11, 2022, 12:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Former UK privacy commissioner Elizabeth Denham has joined the board of 5Rights Foundation, a charity advocating stricter digital rules for tech giants to protect children online. Denham had previously been an outspoken advocate for regulatory action in this area. Under her leadership, the Information Commissioner's Office introduced what is commonly referred to as the Children's Code, imposing new obligations on online service providers to protect underage users. Late last year, the ICO sent letters to more than 40 companies, including Apple and Google, asking about their compliance with the UK's Children's Code regulation, after 5Rights had urged it to step up its enforcement. The regulation is now seen as a blueprint for similar codes in the US state of California, Canada and other jurisdictions.Statement follows....
