UK subsidy regime referrals to CMA consulted on by government

( March 25, 2022, 13:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK laws governing what subsidies can, or must, be referred to the national competition regulator before they are implemented — in order to avoid distortive market effects — are being consulted on by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. The Subsidy Control Bill creates a new state aid regime to be housed in the CMA, through its Subsidy Advice Unit, with enforcement through the UK’s courts and tribunal system. The consultation, which discusses thresholds by reference to size and type of subsidy as well as the sector it affects, is seeking views until May 6. Statement follows.
