New Zealand regulator releases assessment of telecoms contracts

( February 10, 2016, 05:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand’s Commerce Commission has issued its review of unfair terms in telecoms contracts, identifying contract terms creating substantial imbalance of obligations between consumer and company. The Commission reviewed 19 standard-form contracts from seven companies and found 66 potentially unfair terms, relating most commonly to provisions limiting company liability, unauthorized charges or unilaterally altering contracts. Telco companies have amended or agreed to amend the majority of these terms, while providing sufficient evidence to defend other terms that the companies considered necessary to protect their business interests.The regulator's full statement follows:...
