India's "green channel" merger filings come under scrutiny as watchdog becomes more vigilant against overlaps

By Freny Patel ( February 5, 2024, 07:09 GMT | Insight) -- Some of the mergers deemed approved under India's expedited green-channel approval route have come under scrutiny by the competition watchdog as the new set of commissioners have adopted a strict interpretation of the law when it comes to overlaps and misinformation filed by the parties. At least three to four mergers rubber-stamped or deemed approved under the expedited green channel are now being investigated by the Competition Commission of India, MLex was told. In the last six months, there has been an increase in the number of notices sent to parties opting for the green channel because the CCI has raised queries largely based on overlaps and alleged misinformation, sources said.
