EC's approval of DONG energy deal contains 2009 gas release escape clause

By Robert McLeod ( October 30, 2006, 14:29 GMT | Insight) -- The European Commission has published its conditional approval decision for Danish energy company DONG's acquisition of Elsam and E2, more than seven months after the decision was taken. The decision details the conditions under which DONG will release gas to the market, including a review after 2009, and also shows how the commission examined some newer aspects of the energy industry, including financial derivatives and CO2 emissions trading.The European Commission decision to approve Danish energy company DONG's acquisition of Elsam and E2 will allow the energy company to put a halt to gas sales from 2009 should it be able to show market conditions have changed....
