Judge stays Google e-mail privacy litigation pending Supreme Court decision

( February 5, 2016, 23:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US District Judge Lucy Koh has granted Google's motion to stay privacy litigation involving the company's scanning of e-mail exchanged with Gmail accounts, pending the US Supreme Court's decision in  Spokeo v. Robins, a case over whether a plaintiff in an online privacy case can gain Article III standing by alleging no concrete injury other than alleged statutory violations by the plaintiff. Koh found that she "need not resolve the merits of Plaintiff’s standing argument at this juncture, however, because regardless of which path the U.S. Supreme Court ultimately takes, Spokeo may provide substantial guidance as to what statutory violations (if any) confer Article III standing. The Court thus finds that the Landis factor regarding the orderly course of justice weighs in favor of granting a temporary stay."Please see attached order....
