Japan likely to amend existing law to introduce content-moderation rules, telecom minister says

After a panel at the telecom regulator proposed to introduce new rules through legislative measures to speed up the takedown of harmful content, Takeaki Matsumoto, minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, told reporters that his ministry is considering proposing a bill to amend the law regulating Internet service providers’ responsibility for harmful and illegal content. The ministry is aiming to submit the bill at the upcoming ordinary parliament session, scheduled to start later this month, he added.
