St John's bid to acquire medical-alarm supplier Securely's assets raises antitrust concerns for New Zealand regulator

( January 17, 2024, 01:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: An application from St John charitable trust, formally known as The Priory in New Zealand of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, to acquire certain assets of Electra Limited, which trades as Securely, has raised antitrust concerns, New Zealand's competition regulator said. In a statement of preliminary issues released today, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that charitable trust St John as well as Securely supply medical alarms and monitoring services to private end-users and commercial customers. St John wants to acquire assets relating to Securely’s medical alarm and monitoring for use in private homes, retirement homes and retirement villages, and duress alarms for lone workers and personal alarms used in conjunction with New Zealand Police monitoring.
