Czech antitrust watchdog pushes to strengthen powers, legislative proposal shows

( January 15, 2024, 15:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Czech competition authority aims to bolster its efficiency through legislative proposals, introducing new tools to penalize conduct in concentrated markets and empowering its ability to detect and punish cartels, the watchdog said today. The new rules would enable the watchdog to first conduct a sector inquiry in a given market, and to impose measures to open up the market if it finds that competition has suffered. It could also review below-threshold mergers and grant financial rewards for whistleblowers who report anticompetitive conduct. The final version of the proposal will depend on what the parliament will approve, the office said.Statement follows (in Czech).  ...
