American soybean, meat, grains, food export groups among top recipients of federal trade mitigation payments

( January 31, 2019, 19:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The American Soybean Association, US Meat Export Federation, US Grains Council and the Food Export USA North received millions of dollars from the Agriculture Department's financial aid program, which aims to help domestic farmers and ranchers access to new export markets. The program is among the department's three trade mitigation initiatives retaliation. The soybean group's nearly $22 million was the top payment, followed by the meat export federation's nearly $18 million and the grains council's nearly $14 million. There were a total of 57 recipients of the payments. "This infusion will help us develop other markets and move us away from being dependent on one large customer for our agricultural products. This is seed money, leveraged by hundreds of millions of dollars from the private sector, that will help to increase our agricultural exports," Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said in a statement. Statement follows below:...
