Google should not be allowed to avoid keeping privacy promises, EPIC tells US appeals court

( December 21, 2023, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A summary judgment in favor of Google concerning the collection of data from Chrome users is a fundamental rejection of the reasonable consumer standard and would eliminate even the modicum of privacy that the common law currently provides to internet users, according to the Electronic Privacy Information Center. EPIC filed a brief in support of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit overturning the lower court ruling, arguing that when Google makes specific privacy promises to Chrome users, the company should not be allowed to override those promises with blanket disclaimers in its general user agreement.See document below. ...
