Korea Fair Trade Mediation Agency settles more than 10,000 cases in eight years

( January 28, 2016, 08:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- The Korea Fair Trade Mediation Agency has resolved 10,487 cases involving unfair trade practices since it began operations in February 2008. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said that had brought economic gains of 334.9 billion won ($277 million). The most common cases resolved through mediation involved franchise practices (39 percent) followed by subcontracting practices (29.7 percent), general fair trade (27.1 percent), unfair contract clauses (2.8 percent) and distribution deals (1.4 percent). The agency also provided counseling services 39,286 times since 2009 and free legal advice 4,025 times from 2010. The number of cases solved through the agency increases every year and it plans to continue providing services to foster a fair trading environment and to defend small and medium-sized businesses. The KFTC's statement, in Korean, is attached....
