Japan Fair Trade Commission likely to see budget, staff increases next year

( December 25, 2023, 03:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Japan Fair Trade Commission is likely to see budget and staff increases for the fiscal year beginning next April, as new legislation requiring companies to treat freelance workers fairly will take effect in 2024. According to the government’s budget plan for fiscal 2024, the JFTC is likely to see a 6 percent increase from a year ago to a total budget of 12 billion yen ($85.7 million), including the IT-related budget of 358 million yen, requested by the Digital Agency.  The JFTC's General Secretariat will see an increase in headcount to a total of 927, at the end of March 2025, with the addition of 12 members to enforce the freelancer-protection law and four others to strengthen competition-policy management.
