Tech companies can face fines in Brazil if they refuse to provide judges with user data, court rules

( July 1, 2020, 15:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Technology companies that fail to provide courts with data from users targeted in criminal investigations can be fined in Brazil, have their assets frozen or have their names placed on a federal debtors list, according to a statement. The decision from the Brazilian Superior Court of Justice, or STJ, followed an appeal by an unidentified social media company that was fined by a court for taking six months to deliver data to authorities investigating pedophilia crimes on digital platforms.See the Superior Court of Justice press release below (in Portuguese)....
