Telefónica gets 26 million euro fine in Spain over contract restrictions

( November 4, 2014, 18:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Spain's telecom incumbent Telefónica has been fined almost 26 million euros by the Spanish competition authority CNMC. The operator offered discounts to small- and medium-sized businesses in exchange for mobile-contract lengths of between 12 and 24 months, with penalties for early cancellation that increased towards the end of the contract. The clauses restricted competition by disproportionately dissuading Telefónica's customers from switching providers. This increased costs for rivals, the CNMC said....
