Amazon moves to dismiss US FTC, states' amended monopolization claims

( December 8, 2023, 20:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon has filed a motion to dismiss US antitrust claims filed by the US Federal Trade Commission and state plaintiffs, saying it competes every minute of every day with thousands of online and brick-and-mortar retailers. It argued that the three alleged businesses practices are “the very essence” of competition and the complaint fails to allege facts plausibly showing they resulted in anticompetitive effects. Additionally, it argued the FTC may not bring a standalone claim under Section 5 of the FTC Act in district court.
