US senators introduce bill creating social media duty of care toward minors

( February 16, 2022, 15:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A bipartisan US Senate duo said social media companies should more actively protect children, introducing legislation creating a duty of care to act in the best interests of minors. The bill, the Kids Online Safety Act, would also opt out by default content delivered by algorithmic recommendation based on minors' personal data and require social media platforms to limit features that "increase, sustain or extend" engagement.
