Ryanair adds SAS loan guarantees to its string of EU court state-aid challenges

By Michael Acton ( June 22, 2020, 09:45 GMT | Insight) -- Ryanair has lodged two appeals at the EU’s lower-tier court against the bloc's approval of Covid-19 loan guarantees given to Scandinavian Airlines by Denmark and Sweden, MLex has learned. Worth a total of 274 million euros, they were approved by the European Commission under an EU treaty article that allows governments to compensate companies for damages suffered in exceptional circumstances. The Irish budget carrier argues that relaxed rules have allowed national governments to prop up their national airlines, distorting competition.
