Adobe Systems Ireland fined by South Korean regulator for limiting user-cancellation rights

( November 29, 2023, 08:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Adobe Systems Ireland has been fined 1.4 billion won (about $1.1 million) by the South Korean communications regulator for imposing excessive cancellation fees and withholding refunds for prepaid services. The Korea Communications Commission said in a statement today the action follows an investigation into Adobe's online service-fee operations and refund policies, which revealed that users faced a 50 percent penalty under the “annual plan paid monthly” option if they canceled after 14 days. Additionally, for the prepaid annual plan, Adobe did not refund any part of the fee upon cancellation after 14 days. The regulator said these practices were deemed unfair and restrictive to users' right to terminate services, violating the country’s Telecommunications Business Act.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
