Uber-Cornershop deal falls under Mexican competition authority’s scope, court rules

( May 22, 2020, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Mexican competition authority can review Uber’s planned buyout of online grocery provider Cornershop, according to a court decision. The companies initially filed paperwork with the Federal Economic Competition Commission, or Cofece, but Mexico’s telecom regulator stepped in, saying it had oversight. The court found Cofece must decide on the deal because Uber and Cornershop don’t operate in the telecom market, but in the market for transport and logistics via a digital platform.See Cofece press release and document below (in Spanish)....
