Economists, lawyer and former officials appointed to Australian government antitrust panel

( October 30, 2023, 05:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Antitrust lawyer Sharon Henrick, University of California Professor of Economics John Asker and the former chair of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group David Gonski are among five new appointments to the Australian government’s Competition Taskforce Advisory Panel, which will oversee changes to the country’s competition laws. In a statement released today, Treasurer Jim Chalmers also announced economist John Fingleton, the former chief executive of the UK’s Office of Fair Trading and former chairman of the Competition Authority of Ireland, would join the panel, which will be chaired by Kerry Schott, a former government official. Today’s appointments follow those of Danielle Wood, the chair of the Productivity Commission, and Rod Sims, the former chair of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission....
